RPET Recycled Polyester

Here at Broken Forest, we put a lot of effort into making sure that the materials we use as a company cause as little harm to the environment as possible. One of the main materials in our clothing products is Polyester, a synthetic material used to make a wide variety of products including apparel and plastic bottles. If not discarded properly, polyester can be a destructive material to the environment. It and the products made from it have an extremely hard time decomposing. Plastic bottles are one of the leading causes of plastic pollution. Eco Watch® suggests, every second in the United States, 72,000 plastic bottles end up in landfills. In addition to landfills, they also find their way into our open spaces and waterways when they are not discarded properly. This plastic pollution has an extremely adverse effect on our wildlife, natural environment, and even ourselves.

Because of this, we believe it is important to try to limit the effect that plastic bottles have on our environment. Recently, many apparel manufacturers have begun the switch from traditional manufactured polyester to using recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles in their products. Using recycled polyester curbs the improper discarding of plastic bottles and reduces the amount of waste and toxic emissions from landfills. Recycled polyester uses less water during production than typical polyester and helps take some of the millions of plastic bottles out of the waste stream.

Our RPET products contain the equivalent of 5 plastic water bottles per item.
